I think it's plain, I think it's clear What is meant, by this poem here. It is not crime, that Dahl did hate But all those things, which begin to grate. No, not muggers, nor robbers nor thieves, But all those irritating little pet peeves. From people sitting picking noses To tangled up garden hoses. Grinding teeth, and snapping jaws And all unpleasant character flaws. Whether you agree or no It's near time for me to go. But before I do depart I've one last thing to impart Dear friends, we surely all agree There is no poet quite like he.

In this poem i think he relates chewing gum to other crimes. I don't think anyone would hate chewing gum that much and he was sending a message about those who do crime are bound to have a sticky end. He might just really hate gum though!
