Days Of My Dreams

Days Of My Dreams
Written by: Wilfred Mellers, Monday, January 30,2017

Reflecting on those college days.
Tomorrow felt so far away.
The future was still unseen.
And the grass remained green.

Passing each other in those hallowed hallways,
She smiles, the most beautiful girl in school.
I often dreamt of kissing her by the vestibule,
Awed by her beauty; she looked incredible.

She was Mechanical, and I was Electrical,
Springtime in midseason,
Perfection from conception without reason.
Always with a friend, so for her, I'll pen a verse.

She is a goddess amongst all men.
My mind and soul she sets free
By a tranquil lake, shaded by an oak tree.
The daffodils by the sea grow still,
Moments wishing they would never end.

An angel earthbound, we are the perfect blend;
I'd extend my arms for her love,
This life I would transcend.

With elegance and poise, she doesn't hesitate;
There's no time for dialogue; she's off to class. She's never late.
I would have given an eye just for the chance to carry her books,
But I am the shy guy whom everyone overlooks.

So comfortable she is in her skin,
Her eyes take me to places I've never been.
For her affection, I'm trying,
But asking her out seems terrifying.

Sensual and sassy, she is out of my league;
To win her over is now my intrigue.
As I approach, I query a question,
Gauging, testing to see her reaction.

Butterflies inside; I'm feeling dizzy,
Craving to ask her out, if she isn't too busy.
I mustered the courage and hurried to talk to her.
Never a player, just a hopeless amateur.

She said, "I'm sorry, but my plight is to toil each night;
In another space and time, it would have been sublime.
At a premium is the cost of my education;
I don't even have time for relaxation."

Finally, one day, she took a chance.
As seniors, we frolicked at the dinner dance.
Ecstatic I was to embrace her enchantingly;
Those captured seconds felt heavenly.

For once, the world appeared to disappear,
That moment seemed to last for years.
I hold those moments close and dear,
For in that instance, I had held her near.

Like fairytales told in romance books,
Missed chances and passing glances as we exchanged looks.
Two vessels, momentary in the still of the night,
Curiously seeking but never quite getting it right.

As the years passed, I wanted to tell her so much;
I dreamt each night of her tender touch.
Coveting to hold her passionately,
Yet I never indicated that I wanted her desperately.

Moments shared, a lifetime spent,
Never truly knowing what it all meant.
I, the magnanimous gentleman with a foreign accent,
Ponder, I wonder where it all went.

For everything old is now new.
In an alternate universe, you were mine, and I belonged to you.
The sun rises at your beck and call;
For in this existence, I now have it all.
