Days Before I Became A Marauding Lion Poem by Terry Rovert

Days Before I Became A Marauding Lion

Days before I became a marauding lion
I felt it, I just didn't care anymore
It was the usual, then it wasn't.
The cat, my cat, lost my favorite slipper
Then I felt all of it in an instant
Couldn't have survived it,
It came from everything and
In everything, it was there.
The disdain and resentment.
In a rush, in my mind
I threw her out of the window
Yet to my surprise, she was still there
As frightened as ever. What had I done?
For too long, I existed unattended with my thoughts
And I just thought..., I thought..,
Tell me you understand.
That in my wandering,
I had to burn everything I see
Days before I became a marauding lion.
