Dear S. Zaynab, I lived and worked in Asia for five years. I am white, American, of Irish, E
Beauty is not determined by skin color. It starts in the heart.
Tho the skin may be various colors- all hearts are red inside-the organ nearer the soul-Great poem-God bless you.
2 - Very Nice: " both dark-skinned angelic saints and fair-skinned folks with sinner's taints" " hot" , the last word, means " sexy' here, i'm sure. bri :) My Asian wife says I'm " pink" , not white. :)
1 - I'll take one of each of the above, pictured, 'girls'. thanks. please send C.O.D. ASAP. i like this line esp.: " Even an ugly heart will do if the skin is white, pale and light" MY choice would NeVER be an 'ugly heart', but i COULD 'go for ugly' if she were/was thin enough. ok, give me a 'LITTLE meat' on her bones!
What is beauty but an arbitrary reckoning of what excites and amazes a person - there is beauty in everyone, regardless of color. You are brave to put this matter into your poetry! 10+
It is the face that first captures but it doesn't determine if there is a beautiful heart in this soul. Wonderful words expressed.
Well documented! I agree beauty isn't defined by color or even by race. Beauty is found in all shades!
You are so right, Inner beauty is what counts! I live in the Netherlands (fair skinned) and through social media I made an Indian friend who is both beautiful on the inside as out. She and I have had the good fortune to meet last year and we are soulmates, friends. I don't like people hating on skin colour because they feel themselves 'superior' to the other. We are all one race, on one planet, one people! Beautiful put in a beautiful poem!
Beautiful poem Zaynab. Every person is unique in one way or the other, the only difference seen is in physical appearance. This concept is slowly changing today. Self acceptance is the best way to deal with this. Loved the unique topic. Thanks for sharing.
A dark lady with beautiful features is preferred to a fair skinned with grubby features. Think of Prince Harry and his fiancee Megan Markle. Though she is not dark skinned, her mother is black and still it didn't pose a threat in the alliance of Harry with royal blood and Markle. Whether a person is dark or fair what counts more is how agreeable he/she is to others! If preferences of color still predominate, we are far from refinement! A great poem Zaynab! (10)
You have treated a very sensitive issue with panache! We all know that beauty is not skin deep! How foolish one is who goes after external appearance alone overlooking one's internal finesse! The concept of beauty also has changed considerably...!
Like love, beautyknows no colour, creed or race As gorgeously proved by this black supermodel. Besides, we all have come across both dark-skinned angelic saints and fair-skinned folks with sinner's taints..is very true. Black is beautiful always. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful poem.10+++++++
VERY NICE POEM SIS. YES THERE ARE WORDS TO BE DEFINED AND TO UNDERSTAND ONCE AGAIN SUCH AS LOVE & BEAUTY.
Like Love, Beauty Knows No Color, Creed, Or Race! ! ! ! ! Excellently Expressed! ! ! ! ! though i'd fix that first line. Endless 10S! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! +++++
The white westerners frequent the beaches for tan from sun beams! The dark skin want white skin, the curly haired use a hair straightener while the straight haired curl theirs. The thin want to be curvy and the voluptuous skinny... you see... We are conditioned to want what we have not got instead of being grateful and joyful for what was given us. Lets start the gratitude chain. Wonderful poem.
Cntd. You're so right; an ugly heart will do if the skin is white - this is the superficial view that dominates. Well done on a good write, with a well thought-out picture to go with it.
An excellent poem, Zaynab! You've tackled a sensitive subject and made very good points in a skillfully poetic way. The irony of the skin-lighteners vs suntanning agents is something I've often thought about. I've noticed that even in South Korea, the darker skinned people were looked down upon, and had jobs as street sweepers, etc, which is similar to to situation with the Romany (gypsies) here in Czechia.
A wonderful poem beautifully crafted and well executed. It tackles one of the most important issues on human nature. Beauty should never be defined by the color of one's skin. We were all created with distinct and unique personalities. And there is beauty in each and everyone of us. Liked the penultimate stanza.10
Dear S. Zaynab, I lived and worked in Asia for five years. I am a white American male, of Irish, English, German and Lithuanian ancestry. At that time, I noticed that Asian women did not want to get sun tans, and understood why. All women of all races are beautiful.
