Another marvellous and poignant masterpiece of work by a professional poet, who knows the true and fantasy language of poetry, this dark poem is full of gemstones of metaphors and amazing poetic imagery, I would say it deserves 10+ and should goes on the top of my fav list

Thoughts once dead, like spirits, from another world came to haunt They threatened to lacerate her in the stillness of the night

Like serpents uncoiling memories came. If she slept, they would strike. So she kept staring into the awful darkness, wide eyed!

This is my second visit to this poem for its special attraction. Most remarkable lines are...But...she couldn't help......Like serpents uncoiling memories came. Really it is a beautiful poem on memories and pain.

I came back to this as I had the same problem recently, but it was due to ever eating. (Maybe I have the same problem as Bri?) Thanks Valsa

Without darkness, there will be no light, a terrifying nightmare shared, thanks Valsa.

re Ahktarji's (aka Ahktar's) comment and your response: i'll settle for UNaccentuated light and skip the darkness, thank you. bri :)

these are gruesome lines (well done!) : Like serpents uncoiling memories came. If she slept, they would strike. So she kept staring into the awful darkness, wide eyed! i'd use blink, not wink, i THINK! there is a slight difference between the two words. i missed HAVING some punctuation, especially in the first stanza. this sounds extremely ominous! ! ! : Thoughts once dead, like spirits, from another world came to haunt They threatened to lacerate her in the stillness of the night Gagged by those ferocious demons she choked for breath Chained and handcuffed, she couldn't move.................................YIKES! ! to MyPoemList. bri :)

This world is based on contrasts, there are bright memories and their are dark memories, too in absence of dark memories how could we understand and enjoy the bright memories.

Haunting like those bad memories! It is the biggest struggle of life to not those memories overpower us. This is a beautiful and magical poem in its own way!

Dark memories are natural as life is one of joy and sorrow! But not letting them overpower us is a hard struggle and if we don't succeed, we are doomed! Thank you Savita!

This is magnificent, Valsa. Dreams do not only haunt. They indeed can hunt...a threat to our very being.

This fascinating write would make an awesome series. Your poem held me in gripping suspense all the way through that by the time it ended I really wanted more. However the poem also has a terrifying past that surfaces through the visits to the photograph album. A sensitive creative write 10+

I know one suffering from precisely the same situation described here. However hard she tries to tear herself off those painful memories, she is unable to get freed of them. She is now under deep depression and is under treatment! Thank you so much Simone! Disparate images of her have surfaced in many of my poems. In the beginning she has been an ebullient person. Thanks a lot Simone....! I have no words to say how much I enjoy your comments!

Nightmares! They virtually make one desperate and almost kill. Your poem takes the reader through such an exasperating experience. A wonder full poem. Thank you Valsaji

We can't keep busy 24 hours a day... we can't keep preoccupied to the extent that those bad memories won't come slipping past our defenses and place us on the torture rack where it burns us, taunts us, lashes at us with bitter whips... there are even times when we doze off only to wake up an hour later and those horrid memories are already at work on us. You obviously have gone through this many times... when that happens we are even more susceptible to the haunting. Well written.

Sad memories are uninvited guests. Yet they come at unexpected times especially at night to maraud on our peace of mind and joy. Unfortunately all happy memories vanish, but the painful memories linger, Stubbornly clinging to us like leeches.......! Susan.... I always enjoy your insightful comments on poems! Thank you so much!

A beautiful depiction of memories haunting in the silence of the night. When the world goes quiet, our heart and mind become loud. A powerful rendering of how dark memories can strike an insomniac mind.

Valsa, the dark memories are a reflection of the pain and agony that one goes through in one's life. Like serpents uncoiling memories came. If she slept, they would strike. So she kept staring into the awful darkness, wide eyed! Poetically beautiful projecting the dark memories of life. A full vote for you Valsa!
