It reminds me of a passage from lord Byron's Childe Harold, the great ball before the Battle of Waterloo held in Brussels. Actually it was held in a big barn! Your poem brings out this disassociation in War. The french people endured great suffering, not just in Paris, but in places like La Vendee which Victor Hugo covers in his novel Quatre Vignt Treize.
