Dance Class Poem by Emma Mcullough

Dance Class

Rating: 5.0

My hair I put up behind my head with my hands,
I look over the gym floor to the director, the instruments in the stands.
I will do my best to float to the tune of the band.

My dress is tightly pressed against my skin,
The teacher stares me down, my breath is thin.
In my partner's skillful embrace I begin.

Poised on my shoes I feel the air
As I spin and twirl I feel so light, I have no care.
With every circling ring my dress flairs.

We dance so fast and with so much speed
I feel so light and so full of dancing glee.
As I follow where my partner leads me.

By the night's end sweat is on my brow,
I want to sleep, and not think of school tomorrow.
But I don't want to stop dancing yet though…
