Cry Of A Black Kitten Poem by PREMKUMAR C N

Cry Of A Black Kitten

Rating: 5.0

I am a black kitten
My brothers are white
We were born in a pet shop.
Pet lovers bought
All my brothers
Because they are white.

Black cats are for witches,
Said a lady to her son,
Who wanted me as his pet
Black Cats are bad luck,
Bad omen and misfortune
Said someone looking at me.

If you take me as your pet
I will love you till my death
I told them in silence.
My fur is black
But my heart is gold
No one listened to me

At last the pet shop owner
Abandoned me in the streets
Some threw stones at me
Since I am black
And a bad omen

I am a black kitten
Born in a world
Full of superstition,
Racism, inequalities
And colour discrimination.

Cry Of A Black Kitten
POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Colour discrimination is everywhere in the world. Even a kitten is a victim of colour discrimination. In most cultures, black cats have typically been looked upon as a symbol of evil omens.

I've never had a white cat but I have had several black ones!

Our cultures are depicted on superstitions and it's difficult to break the shackles of age old beliefs. Very sensitive poem.

Great poem with good analogies. Black cats are probably stronger as a result.
