The warmth of shaded blackness ripped away.
Harsh brightness greets me
Eyes closed tight, strange sounds assail me.
My once floating body, heavy now
and feeling strange contact- skin on skin
Eyes open slowly to see movements.
I try to cry but fear holds me mute,
until, into my eyeline,
eyes appear.
Warm, brown, deep as eternal mysteries.
For a long moment I am held within them,
swaddled by their calm,
nurtured by their love,
swimming once again in their pacific tenderness.
I know that face,
I know that heartbeat,
that was my world.
A gentle, familiar voice
softly whispers ‘hello baby'
and finally,
I am home.
