Covid Blues Poem by Bill Grace

Covid Blues

Sahara sands over San Antonio
in Sahara Africa a sea size sand storm stirs
into the Gulf coast region of the United States,
the media alerts Texas.
Three days after initial over cast
the taste of dust is in the air.
AC filters turned from white to desert tan
require replacing.
There is an official air alert.
Sahara sands over San Antonio

Sahara sands over San Antonio
in Wuhan China, doctor Li Wenliang, an opthamologist
tries to alert colleagues to a new variety of Corona virus.
He is silenced first by the thought police,
second by what comes to be known as COVID-19.
He leaves a wife and two children.
From counties to countries to continents it spreads.
The President declares he is a 'War President.'
In my foxhole a mask is always within reach.
Casualties by legion continuously march
to an unknown mark.
Pandemic becomes the common word.
Sahara sands over San Antonio.
