" ...each spring will be a sword you'll sharpen, those you love will live in a fever of love, and you'll bargain with the calendar and at the last moment when death opens the back door you'll put on your carpet slippers and stride out." Hard and unforgiving realities of life... the inevitability... without compromise...loved it! Thanks

The first time you rode a bike, wallowing up the sidewalk. The first spanking when your heart went on a journey all alone. You described this poem's topic as courage. a fine poem. tony

The courage wants to rise like a hero even if it falls into the abyss of death. The fire of the last act informs us that the birth of courage is for immortality. This death is merely a physical departure. He will live forever in the struggle of this memory.

when you face old age and its natural conclusion your courage will still be shown in the little ways, each spring will be a sword you'll sharpen, those you love will live in a fever of love, and you'll bargain with the calendar and at the last moment when death opens the back door you'll put on your carpet slippers and stride out......written beautifully;

Loved the myiads of manifestations of courage as described in the poem, but the last stanza is truly the best of all!

In child's first step we see courage as small thing but when the child grows his courage explores with much strength and gives him success. Even in old age and natural connection, courage never fades away. It still shines. This poem is excellently penned and a nice modern poem of the day is chosen. Reading poem of Anne Sexton who is ranked, #52 on top 500 poets, we feel happy.

Excellent poem. This life is full of risk and danger at every step. Courage is shown in crossing over each hurdel and each barrier to keep on moving with life.

This is a beautiful poem on courage by Anne Sexton. It is justified for being chosen as the classic poem of the POD.
