My friends affirm that I am an adept at cooking fish, flawlessly,
although my spouse disagrees, vehemently.
She claims I always overdo the cooking,

Ha ha ha. I think it could be. You shouldn't try not to avoid and fight for your rights.
Asim, I plan to put this poem into my June 2023 Showcase of PH poems I share with members. bri ;)
Nice poem! You both are trying not to allow a small contention to snowball into larger one.A great effort to keep marital harmony intact.
Whole story is Fishy, Yes, it is a fictitious poem, but you are familiar with its theme, especially after a few years of marriage, don't you?
Hey! I think maybe you made up the whole story. My regards to 'the Mrs.'. bri : )
True, Yes, it is a fictitious poem, but you are familiar with its theme, especially after a few years when you begin to criticize the food and she has the chance to contradict you.
five stars. Switch to cold cuts, cold ones. Cold cuts: 'Sliced assorted cold meats.' OR cook all the fish to be tender (no crispness achieved) , then serve the wife and continue cooking yours till crispy. Solution! ! !
Who said 'writing English is easy' or 'writing English has to be the same every time'? ? Not me. And, of course, WE POETS may (I'm not sure) perhaps use our 'poetic licenses' here?
'Together we'll experiment, and hopefully, we'll find, ...' I'd delete ', ' after 'hopefully' or keep it and add ', ' in front of 'hopefully', OR I'd delete all commas in the line!
At end of 'sentence' 4, I say 'delete' the word 'too'. I think that is much better even though you will lose a rhyme! ;)
'So, we stuck a deal' I believe you want to type 'struck a deal'. 'The meaning of STRIKE A DEAL is to come to an agreement.' : ) Good for you two.
'bone of contention': 'Main issue of a disagreement; something to quarrel about......This expression alludes to two dogs fighting (contending) over a single bone.'
A fish bone of contention. CONTENTION (one definition) : 'The act or an instance of striving in controversy or debate. synonym: conflict.'
Good if you succeeded in limiting your fight to cooking in last 20 years, great achievement according to me.
That's what love is all about, but remember, it's better to eat the fish than be eaten by one!
A beautiful and meaningful poem that shows the intricacies of married life. Despite of differences in food and other things, the respect and love for each other are always there.
As soon as you become husband and wife these things comes up and bone of contention can be any silly thing.
Poetic Sky, You sound like you've experienced it. Good luck. I'm 'on wife # 4; tell me about contention! ! ! : )
Fishy? ? ? I smell something else.......
