Contentment Poem by Adams King

Contentment

Rating: 5.0

Have you my friend a cup of water
Drink joyously that which is yours
And take your eyes of another's river

Have you a hut of your own
Live in it comfortably
And do no desire another's mansion

Have you a seed in your own hands
Plant them on your farm, waiting patiently
And do not despise your neighbor's abundance

Have you clothes torn and worn
Patch them, wear them gracefully
Confidently with looks so bold

Learn to live with the work of your hands
There is joy drinking the wine
Of your vineyard

Eating the bread of your sweat
Comes with a certain badge of honor
Dignity and some peace of mind

Do not be broken having so little
For all my days and search
I have seen no man satisfied having more

Have you the wife of your youth
Love her, respect her
Grow you affection daily for her

Your neighbor's wife is enticing isn't she
For stolen bread gives sweet feelings
Such feelings are blindfold to dug grave

Contentment is a gift of the soul
And patience is it shield that guides
Endurance and hope keeps it light burning

Do not be misled to do evil
Seek selfcontrol and a heart of love
Slowly awakening every dream of yours
