Throughout the third stanza the poet uses personification to describe how the passage of time diminishes all joy and hope such as 'Can friendship's flower droop on for years' and 'surer than that dwelling dread, the narrow dungeon of the dead'

A very interesting poem. When life is fast fleeing past and age not on your side with almost all your friends gone, your remember the beautiful days gone and wish to relive them again. Beautiful work of poetry.

This line caught my eye, Can we not woo back old delights? But Death has stolen our company, as Sunshine steals the dew. Beautifully crafted piece of poetry

I know Emily Jane Bronte too well from my Eng.Lit. study years, a constant theme is coming back, that of the dead. A most beautiful poem about love, friendship and death is in between. True melancholic, but the Beauty of this poem is matchless! I so enjoyed this loveliest poetry, Emily created. CONGRATULATIONS for Classic Poem OTD!
