Color Me Human Poem by Keith R. Mansfield

Color Me Human

Color me red,
branded a savage,
my trail of tears
still looms long.

Color me black,
for the chains that
still bind me to
hate and ignorance
are not yet broken.

Color me yellow,
for misunderstanding
and fear still
brand me the enemy.

Color me brown,
for the persecution
of all for the
bellicose rhetoric
of the few still marks me.

Color me human,
for my blood runs
just as red, and my tears
fall just as wet in the
wake of dehumanizing hate.
