Cockapoo Christmas Poem by H E Alexander

Cockapoo Christmas

When all of your kids have grown up and gone
and the house is now still and you feel all alone,
you become perplexed and somewhat withdrawn;
oftentimes you wonder if your life is done.

Then into your home you bring - out of the blue -
a little chap with a warm heart, and a cold nose, too,
changing your perspective, your point of view,
and your life re-wakes with an apricot cockapoo.

He follows you round all day long at your heels,
he barks, he plays, he barks more and he steals:
mostly socks and tea-towels, but whatever he feels,
and begrudges laying in bed when we eat our meals.

He still thinks he's a pup, despite his being three;
he'd chase ball all day long; he's so full of energy.
But as Yuletide draws nigh, our hearts fill with worry:
what on earth will he do to the baubles on the tree!
