my guess is that Pound knew neither the lady or the gentleman.... //.... Very sensible. When a celebrity is gone, concocting such tales has no meaning.

Not a Poundian scholar but a pounding scholar. To old fashioned me it reads like an anecdote.
Whom to believe and whom not to this dilemma is with everyone and this was truly explored by the poet.
