Civilization Without Virtue

Civilization without virtue
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
why pursue virtue
when we get zilch in lifetime?
worry about dues?
some time in hell is quite fine
one's stray thoughts during life's grind

if clever, profit
has civilization failed?
might is still right
downtrodden, misery-nailed
virtue, sad to say, has paled

millenia gone
can't see.sign of equity
disparity prone
religions break society
is there hope for sanity?

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Valsa George 20 April 2018

Seeing the present state of affairs, we are apt to conclude that the more we are 'civilized', the more we lose our refinement and values....! A strange contradiction! Religion, a unifying factor is now turned into a divisive force, instead of fostering love, it fosters hatred! The gap between the rich and the poor is ever widening! A realistic presentation of the modern day society!
