(for a painting by Natali Wienstein, posted April 18,2024)
... ... ... ... ... ...
a rapturous whirl of gamboling piscine flesh...
adjusting speed and distance to swim as a school...
performing a vortex as a ritual of togetherness...
a little while ago, they must have been scattered...
lurking in their shadowy bottom-feeding haunts...
now summoned by prospects of communal enjoyment,
eagerness draws them into a revolving procession...
a coordinated flick of tails makes a glimmering display...
streaks of light trace the eddies they stir...
and their colors swirl in a circle of radiance.
