Wonderful childhood memories! We used to make cinnamon toast exactly the same way!
Charles Strite invented the pop-up toaster in 1921, or 1919, according to one source. I don't think we had one as early as 1948 either.
The first electric toaster was invented in 1893 by Alan MacMasters in Scotland. He called the device the "Eclipse Toaster, " and it was manufactured and marketed by the Crompton Company. It would only toast bread on one side at a time and had to be watched so the toast would not burn.
This lovely poem resonates with me. Very entertaining write.
A wonderful childhood memory. Yes, our Mother's home- made bread is always the best.
It is a lovely poem on cinnamon toast with fond memories of your mother.
Childhood memories long last in our life--even a small flower, a blade of grass, a berry and many common things with which we were associated in childhood give nostalgic feelings.
All other things being said, nothing beats Mother's home-made bread!
