A word will fill the little heart
With pleasure and with pride;
It is a harsh, a cruel thing,
That such can be denied.

Congratulations to L.E.L (posthumously) on having written this beautiful poem and on its selection as the 'Member Poem of the Day! The poem resonates in me, I can so well relate to it! When our children were growing up, I was not much mindful of the delicate handling that they deserved. When my two grandchildren are growing up, I realise in retrospect our mistakes in raising them and urge upon our son and daughter in law to be kind and caring to them. This is nature's lesson.

Love is the name of the deepest feeling of the heart If you want to learn something from someone, then only sincere dedication is required which is an initiative of love And if you have to teach someone, then you need to be kind and that is also an initiative of love Therefore nothing can be learned or taught without love

How much they suffer from our faults! How much from our mistakes! How often, too, mistaken zeal An infant's misery makes! this is so true that it hurts//

Really we treat our children very unkindly. They need love and care when growing. A nice poem indeed about how we should teach the children about sharing love instead of being cruel with them. They deserve our love and kindness. Thanks for sharing.

The innocence, the beauty, the inquisitiveness, the mistakes...traits of children. If only we can be like them, free without bias and prejudice. Beautiful piece

And I visit this poem again. In our 'mistaken zeal' how often we the elders impose our misguided will on children. This is particularly true in today's India where we push children to school and studies at such an early age against all her will, when the child should play and pick points of life to learn.

A very nice poem with a strong message for all the parents about how to share love with their children. Nicely crafted and it has a very sweet flow. 'No: only taught by love to love, Seems childhood's natural task; Affection, gentleness, and hope, Are all its brief years ask. '... is very nice.10++++

though landon's view of children may be a bit romantic, she makes good points. the phrase " mistaken zeal" hits home for me. did she raise children? it took me years to see this basic fact of parent-child relationships: while children are learning to grow up, their parents are learning how to parent, both making lots of mistakes in their respective positions. -gk

Hats off to the understanding of the poetess about tender feelings of children along with their rightful aspirations and over burdened expectations with training imparted to them by parents.A great classic poem of the Day.
