Child's Morn Poem by William Kofoed

Child's Morn

Cold gray mist lies on the ground

steel gray clouds are overhead

streamers of smoke in the cold breeze

silence echo's all around

jagged teeth the broken buildings

empty windows and broken doors

shell holes punched through all the walls

broken stone lie on the ground

tangled hair gray with dust

empty eyes that seemed too much

open mouth of parched lips

empty of all except life

all is gone nothing remains

life continues in childhood lost

without fear devoid of hope

empty shell of what once was
