This is a great poem, Phil. This, I guess is written from experience. You've written this poem, on a serious subject, and flavoured it with humour. Having kept cattle myself I know that this type of situation can be extremely dangerous. Cattle sometimes perceive strange dogs and/or humans as a threat, particularly if there are youmg calves with them. Often a calf will find a hiding place to rest, you may not see it but it's mother will be aware of where the calf is. If a person or a dog walks between the calf and it's mother the cow will think the calf is under threat and rush to protect it.
