Susan's creates an anthropomorphic sense with active language. Creates an unusual world of her own through poetry, inviting us to enter.
I like to think that the chameleon is one of nature's pacifists - rather than risk a fight or incur the damage of turning the other cheek, the chameleon disappears in plain sight, blends with the environment to avoid confrontation. Your chameleon disquise keeps prying eyes from invading your privacy, protects you in broad daylight so you don't have to isolate yourself to be safe. Both motivations make this creature a winning, multivalent symbol. But these success stories distract from something else: WHY MUST WE HIDE OUR TRUE IDENTITIES FROM OTHERS BY ASSUMING THE CHAMELEON DISGUISE? Why indeed can't we be accepted for what we are? That's a collateral thought your poem suggested to me.
and as well is the only constant... Perhaps I am mistaken on this one.. but do I read a somewhat bittersweet indictment of human nature? ... hiding our frailties and insecurities from their descovery by others who would use them against us... aren't we are all chameleons to one degree or another?
'Ever ready to meld into a harmless entity Eye-catchingly quick to disappear from sight In a flash of changing color Protected by the armor that is My ingrained ability to adapt.' You have painted the picture beautifully!
love your poem susan, great artistic description.
