A most powerful character that she decided to stay in Russia and did not emigrate.5 Stars full on TOP

she is notable for choosing not to emigrate, and remaining in Russia, acting as witness to the atrocities around her. Her perennial themes include meditations on time and memory, and the difficulties of living and writing in the shadow of Stalinism.

CELEBRATE! I oft admired her poems, powerful but loveliest worded and she was one of the few who stayed in Russia and not ran away for the regime. Brave poetess, true poetess in heart and soul. Congratulations for being chosen as The Classic Poem Of The Day. I have enjoyed endlessly this great classic.

Good old Anna one of her best always with shades of Parker and Rosetti.

Lovely poem. Can't help wondering why she altered her rhyme pattern in the last stanza. Someone gave Olympic champion pairs figure skater Gordeeva a book of Akhmatova poetry when she was in America, and it made her homesick for Russia!

Recalling and portraying that cold winter wedding night is just outstanding. Looks like an anniversary gift for the occasion. Thanks. I quote: that winter night of diamantine splendour. and where we are heading – I don’t know.

She is one of my favorite poets. This particular poem is much more upbeat than much of her other poetry. Very romantic and happy.
