Calls Not Answered Poem by Akham Nilabirdhwaja Singh

Calls Not Answered

Rating: 5.0

The covid patient
whose condition worsened
called his doctor friend
repeatedly before entering the ICU
hoping for some comforting words,
but the calls not answered.
Crestfallen he handed over the phone
to his tense wife,
who is also a covid patient,
a moderate case just resolved
asking to respond
if the doctor called back,
for he might be somewhere
leaving the phone.
A few days ago
before his illness,
the doctor visited his house
to exchange pleasantries.
Reluctantly, the patient entered the ICU.
There he did not know,
the doctor never called back.
He died in the ICU
after a few days.
