THOUGH already in 2021 I still say WELCOME TO POEM HUNTER, and I have copied Kim Barney's response once again: Here is the entire first verse: Abide with me! fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide!

The first two lines are from a hymn I have sung many times in church. Lyrics by Henry Francis Lyte (1793-1847) and the music by William Henry Monk (1823-1889) . Here is the entire first verse: Abide with me! fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide! When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.

A fascinating poem, even though I did not understand all of it. This is your first one posted on this site, so let me be the first one to welcome you to Poem Hunter!
