Can a beautiful creature like abutterfly be terrorising? But you built the poem in such a way so as to feel the terror.Fear of death is there in everbody. We don't know when it will come.We pretend to ignore its presence. But ultimately we succumb to its capture.

Excellent poem, told in all brilliance! Congrats being chosen as MPOTD, Kim. Wish to congratulate you, eventhough the choice happened in 2017, Kim.

Great poem my friend! And I just love that picture, it is perfect. You are not only a talented, superb poet, but also a truly gifted photographer! I'm in awe of your ability to put into words with such depth what your artistic heart sees in pictures. What a gift.

Smoky, my friend, thank you for the comment, but I was not the photographer. I just found that picture on the internet. Some of my poems do have my own pictures, but not this one. Thanks again.

Only you (and maybe Edgar Allan Poe) could make a butterfly seem terrorizing!

Excellent Kim, just revisiting again and rereading and while I'm here in your poetry neighbourhood another five worthy stars. A poem that gets better and every better every time I read it. So well written and presented. Thanks again Kim and to you and the loved ones around have a Merry Christmas. Take care and enjoy life.

This is very good! The almost unimaginable, yet brilliant, metaphor with the butterfly as Death... and in the “garden” to boot! Superb. Love the picture also.

I like this poem. A steady insistent rhythm and beat builds up the suspense. The surprise of that fear of an unknown buzzard in one's garden is foiled by that being a butterfly- not a mosquito or a flying ladybug. We so usually associate butterflies with beauty and a sense of freedom. That this is the butterfly of death is a surprise!

Just a little comment, repetition is not always conducive to a poem, possibly though because of my photographic memory, it takes away from the essence of the poem when being read. The poem in and of itself is good, great imagery! i.e. I was sitting in my garden, just relaxing, doing nothing when I saw a butterfly appearing there all of a sudden, not surprisingly,

RoseAnn, I think that in this case, the repetition is what MAKES the poem. This has a kind of Edgar Allan Poe feel to it. THE RAVEN would not be nearly as good without all that repetition! Sorry, but your two lines of 'revision' are sadly lacking!

A very gripping imaginative write. In a couple of seconds I was able to witness a butterfly of death. So vividly depicted. The recurring words make the poem more interesting. Beautifully crafted and well executed write.10+++++

Discovered this one. Extremely creative and original. Interesting way the poem developed from a photo. So borboleta is butterfly in Portuguese? Here are some more contributions just for fun: EK is die skoonlapper van die dood. (Afrikaans) Je suis le papillon de la mort (French) Já jsem motýl smrti (Czech) 나는 죽음의 나비 다. (Korean) Mimi ni kipepeo kifo (Swahili)
