THEY ENTERTAINED US

THROUGH THE YEARS

NOW THAT THEY'RE GONE

WE'RE FULL OF TEARS

BURMA SHAVE

Burma Shave Signs
POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I remember seeing the Burma Shave signs when young and traveling in the United States of America. The family got so excited each time a new set of signs appeared. They were spaced along the side of the highway. I don't know how far apart they were, but it seems that if you were traveling at about the speed limit, you had just enough time to absorb what the previous sign had said before the next one appeared. If I remember correctly, they were always in all capital letters and the last one always said 'BURMA SHAVE'. They were usually clever, but I don't know how effective they were. I don't remember that my dad (or anyone I knew) actually BOUGHT any Burma Shave!

***** five stars FOR: poem, picture, & Poet's Notes, though at first I did not notice that the photo was a series of 5 photos stacked one upon the other. : ) bri

suggestion: DON'T put shaving cream on your skin to be shaved with an ELECTRIC RAZOR! No, I never did that. : ) bri

I might have used Burma Shave shaving cream (from an aerosol can) , though I might have been 'too young' to shave back 'then'. My dad used shaving soap and a shaving brush to lather his face before shaving.

I don't know of anyone that actually bought Burma Shave, either. I don't remember ever seeing the actual product in any stores.
