The so-called Sport! Wickedness of mankind on earth! In the name of a culture. Bull bullies! Thanks for sharing this poem with us.

I wonder what was in the heads of the men who first thought this would be a fun sport... Did they see it as a test of their manhood, their bravery, their ability to kill an animal slowly? Must have been related to the men who thought it would be fun to throw roosters at each other.... You wrote a stirring protest from the heart for all men who have hearts

I've never been to a bullfight, and don't think I will ever go. Thanks for a very thought-provoking poem.

i've been to bullfights in mexico, and i felt sympathy for the bull. perhaps you know one of my favorite children's picture books—" ferdinand" —about a bull who refuses to fight. your last two lines are thought provoking. -glen

Honorable poet has voiced against a wrong doing and misconduct of men against Cruelty against animals made humans as devils. It is neither a glory or a macho thing to hurt animals. In Spain the cruelty is well decorated but it's occurring worldwide in low profile by shrewd profit makers. I love this poem. The poet expressed well. +10.

Good observation and beautifully written...have you been to Spain....I was once at a bull fight performance....emotions rise to exaltation....Animal right people protest, but the cruel tradition outlives the protest voices...

Warmest thanks for comment. Noh I've never been to Spain, but they show the bullfighting shows on telly quite frequently. Yeah I showed both the pro and against, views. You are brave to have seen it live.

Cont/.. But I see you call it a cruel tradition so like me you must not be very much for it. Animal rights yes though it's better than killing humans since we have an allowance to eat cow and bull meat.

It's not bravery...it was exposure to Spanish culture, I wanted to experience, but all was very civilized....I do not favour bullfighting though..

'I find in the sport a sort of '. I fully agree with your observation. The mentality of people who indulge in and endorse the sport has nicely been portrayed here. Thanks for sharing the poem, Ma'am.

3 - WHAT! ! ! ? Athena is a 'myth'! ? Yes, they might as well feed on the dead bull. We in the U.S. eat cows all the time, but don't get to enjoy the sport without traveling " abroad" . ; ( i don't understand: " Tis fair play or fair game for the raging bull tis half blind? "

Hi Bri, Athena the goddess is a Greek myth right? Or was she a real person, I dunno. And I say that in a rhetorical question meaning it's not fair play and fair game that the bull is half blind.

2 - bully boy: " noun noun: bully boy/bullyboy: " a tough, aggressive man" yeah, " sickle" and i use " ain't" once in a while also, maybe 'cause i was 'taught', growing up, that it was 'improper'. we SHOULD use " isn't" , ain't that right/correct! ? ha ha.

1 - i see a message from you awaiting me. now to read about this " sport" . nice title. but is it the bulls or bull fighters who are bullies? i guess i should read the poem. 2nd line: has yor keyboard lost its " u" , as mine just did? stanza 5: i didn't expect to find a " masochism" definition to fit here, but i did: " (in general use) the enjoyment of what appears to be painful or tiresome"
