You came in out of the cold, out of the shadows.
Bleeding down to your shoeless feet and toes
With broken wings
Your wounds needed healing, body and soul.
You needed tender care to mend.
The bones that had been fractured and broken.
You required a saline drip upon arrival.
You needed life support. A harbour in the storm
A lighthouse in the night that means to save
You needed a nursemaid to take your fading pulse.
Remind you, you still have endless courage
You needed a surgeon to reconnect severed tissues.
You thought it would never again be mended
You needed to be sutured.
While you were wondering if you'd ever
be returned home
You came in out of the cold, out of the shadows.
Bleeding down to your shoeless feet and toes
With broken wings
And discover a healing light at the end of the tunnel.
A lighthouse in the night that rescued you from a raging sea
With a humanity that blew your mind
As tears fell unseen in their million
That came just like you to be saved.
And later went home, no longer a drowning island standing alone.
You came in out of the cold, out of the shadows.
Bleeding down to your shoeless feet and toes
With broken wings, but now your mended
Following the blueprint that is truly, truly you again.
