Broken Fences

Broken Fences

A rose to you I now send,
Gone are the days with my best friend.
Empty pockets that no longer lend,
Wasting time, I now spend alone again.

If only I could suspend time,
I'd pretend to have you back in my arms.
With you, I'd fill every weekend
And resend affectionate letters once again.

To cherish you more, I would intend.
Into the darkest caverns, I would descend,
Unbending captive wires, I'd mend,
On high summits, I would ascend.

I would contend with your every need,
Lavishing parties we would attend indeed.
On you, I would spend,
For you are truly a godsend.

Preoccupied, I was with having a girlfriend,
On you, I relied and came to depend.
This, truly, I commend or recommend.
Released from the nest, birds must fend.

This voyage, now, I append.
Left to my qualms, I must tend.
A tree in the wind must learn to bend;
Words were spoken, that I never meant to offend.

An Oak leaf, I now extend.
All reservations, I now suspend.
You, my love, were the perfect blend,
For my actions now, I must amend.

Insecurities seem to be the trend.
Is this what you truly want to defend?
Can fondness, over time, truly transcend?
Broken fences I need to mend.
