I've enjoyed very much a few of Poe's poems: is Poe short for Poet? This one I think is letting us hear the bride's 'heart thinking' of a former lover who died. : ( Well, at least she has her ring now.

There's always a hit of sadness and despair in the poems of Edgar Allan Poe. This is no exception.

This poem is so inspiring and beautifully written. If anyone reads the infernal devices book series by Cassandra Clare, you will find it is based on this deeply meaningful poem. Thank you Poe for expressing his feelings in this way.

Her name was Virginia Clemm. It was an under-age " cousin marriage" . She died of tuberculosis aged 24. The poem was probably composed in May 1849, only five months before Poe's own death in Baltimore.

'Would God I could awaken! For I dream I know not how! And my soul is sorely shaken Lest an evil step be taken, - Lest the dead who is forsaken May not be happy now. '... is awesome. A nice poem.
