Breathless Poem by Christian Thomas Scott

Breathless

Perchance the flight of the spirit of men
Is fed by a luminous strength of the heart,
To glide over ground with the chill of breath,
And the pound of the feet upon the world.
To panting for space and fighting for place,
As the battle of minds replays again,
And longing to strike and sustain the pace,
To live in the beauty of rushing wind.
Cold and painful, too hot to embrace,
The currents of striding and matted taste.
