Boxed Heart Poem by empty shell

Boxed Heart

Rating: 3.0

In a grey metal box, with an oversized clasp
my heart beats
and beats it does
trying to ignore it but it calls me still
nagging incessantly, constantly,
let me out, let me out, let me out
I want to but I know it will bolt
Instead, I give it gentle caresses and coo to it….
'be content, its safer in there'
It doesn't believe me
maybe I will take it out, just for a while,
just long enough to imagine you
and I,
Open the box
And walk in the light
once again.
