Boon And Curse Poem by Parameswaran Nair Damodaran Nair

Boon And Curse

Rating: 5.0

As a boon, relieving children
from year long penance,
the schools were closed

Like birds released from cages
They enjoyed freedom
reaching out everywhere.

They made friends and played
With the wind and clouds.
Love was in their heart for all.

Under the tall mango trees
Laiden with ripe golden fruits
They made playgrounds

They were seen everywhere-
Atop the gooseberry tree,
The cashew tree and the like,

In places of worship,
In farms and mills and
In market places too,

They had gone fishing, boating
And water-sporting and
Returned home as scheduled

Many had made themselves
Epitomes of success
And roll models of the society

I sympathise today's children.
For such past times and such funs
Are foreign to them,

They succumb to a world
Within four walls brooding over
A lost computer game

Surrendering their minds and bodies
To premature decay

This is a cry rising from every elderly heart! When our generation looks back to the childhood days, they have a handful of sweet memories to hold onto even in their advancing age. But the present children are couch potatoes, glued to their computers and smartphones subjecting themselves to a kind of mental decay! You are absolutely right! A very good write!

Thank you very much Valsa George. Children of our generation were very much fond of the nature and nature's gifts. We were free to mingle with the nature and to learn from it abundantlybut the modern children are not so free and not so dedicated

Yes, today; s children miss long holidays and the freedom to play in natural surroundings.Computer game is their past time.Bound to heavy curricula of schools, burdened by parental expectations, they lose their childhood fun that should be their birth right.

What today's children miss were being enjoyed by the children of olden days. What I find wrong with modern children is that they are not given enough freedon to mingle with the nature's care for them. Thank you very much
