Blend In...
Why?
wear a smile to hide what's inside of us?
to fit into and not to stand out.
From,
what others perceive as the 'norm'.
Not everybody, that wears a smile are happy.
There could be deeper meanings behind it.
As a smile can hide a thousand anguish's
to cloak one's self in a fake face.
The,
one we bare to the outside world
to hide the hurt, the heartache that we carry,
it can sometimes feel as if we have a chain of sadness
weighing heavily around our necks.
Still every day we can put this charade on,
this gesture of the fake smile,
so others won't notice the real us.
The sadness.
The loneliness.
The tearfulness.
Why keep up the pretence of happiness?
Why feel forced to comply?
Just to fit into today's society.
Why?
feel the need to blend in?

The pressure of conformity has its price the Chameleon blends in while on the piece of wood to avoid standing out, yet, it does him no benefit when the wood is thrown into the fire, great poem as usual Annette!
Perhaps the need to conform is a survival trick. In the wild, horses and antelope and bison live in herds to lessen their chances of being eaten by predators. To stay in the herd, they must blend in, obey the norm, not rock the boat. If they don't, they may be cast out of the herd and left to survive on their own. So perhaps humans blend in with the crowd to avoid being eaten by predators.... see what I mean? Your poetry makes me sit back and think! Well-done, Annette
To blend in is to lose our souls and become like sheep following the herd, we can be free as who we are, not perfect but real! Great write Annette!
Not everyone who wears a smile is happy, that's true! Happiness is sort of hard to find, it's a blessing!
Not everyone who wears a smile is happy, that's true! Happiness is sort of hard to find it's a blessing!
I understand your point.... But most of the time we have to put on appearances and blend in! We can be ourselves before some who will understand us and not judge us, but not before everyone! Such fake appearance will save us from standing odd and aloof! Why should we make others know that we are confused and sad..... better to cover up our inner feelings.... not always, but most of the times! A fine write!
To let the world know that we are happy. But that fake veneer of happiness we hide multitudes of negative emotions. This is the sad reality. We don't present our original self to the world. Very real and nice poem.
