Blank Wall Poem by jan hansen

Blank Wall

The blank wall (infant killer)

I look at her face, an ordinary young woman's aspect sans make-up, ready to begin her shift
I look at her eyes, that stare past me into an eternity
I see no bitter lines of hatred on her face, except for a certain sullenness, the loneliness often displayed when ready to be refused entry, and the fear of not being accepted.
Her crime is beyond words, did it happen as when a nature catastrophe occurs and there is no answer
Her crime was evil, yes it was, but if she lacked humanity why did she confess?
She will be forgotten and for a long time be one of the un-dead stalking the corridors of nefarious prisons
Future generations might learn about this woman and their teacher will say: "She was truly evil."
