This is absolutely amazing poetry. The black hole swallowing hope, the distant bark of a lone dog calling out from beyond, the desire for help from strangers to light a path out of the darkness, and the fear of pain; superb flow of deep feeling.

Very poignant and philosophical poem. Readily connects to one's intellect: As it swallows up the light Diminished by my lack of Faith, Dark, dark, dark, I become As the sun consumed by night.

Thank you, Dillip. Yes, I agree with you about the first Stanza. Faith is a precious commodity and this applies to all Faiths.

Hi Robert. I've been trying to reply but ruddy PH keeps switching me to next poem! I shall try again! Glad to see you back too. I've been busy translating from the Italian, a joint project with Fabrizio Frosini. And 'm gearing my self up for a long poem but need to do a lot of research. You can always message me. Please do.

The first ray of light of the universe probably came from a Black Hole, arguably the deepest quantum darkness of the universe. In that sense, the black hole is a positive entity which constantly showers heavenly blessings (light) on us in a hidden manner. So, through the word ‘dark’ the poem actually emits light of faith....well conceived with a deep philosophical insight. Thanks for sharing this wonderful poem with us. Chandan

Although I was raised as a Catholic, I had so many questions that were never answered. Not even by priests. Worse yet, I was once thrown out of the Confessional. Imagine that! Still, I had faith! I could go on forever. Even write a book about it. But I won't! Suffice it to say, my near death experience had given me all the faith that I will ever need! Tom, your poem is profound. Thought-provoking. Heart-felt. Brilliant. Congratulations on such an excellent write!

Thank you, Richard. I shall look forward to reading about your near death experience. I am curious to know what lead you to be thrown out of the Confessional!

I asked the priest: If God created Man/Woman, then who created God? As a child, I thought it was a legit question. He didn't know how to respond, so he kicked me out. It had left me with some scars. But God has responded in some glorious ways!

A profound write. We all are in it...this black hole. You plea is everyone's plea. A heart-touching n honest cry that some of us smother within us but some give vent to in beautiful verses. A10

Thank you Nosheen. It is understandable that people smother their distress but it can increase their suffering.

A remarkable poem. There are times in our lives when we all feel this Black Hole wishing to escape it. Though in age at times you understand the strength of self and the hope with faith you can reach the top. Thank you and a great time in my life to need and read this poem.

I am still a doubting Thomas, Lyn, but the Faith of others, including many on PH from all Beliefs, does inspire me and give me Hope. I am by Nature an optimist so that helps. Faith in our friends is a good thing.

How deep and dark depression can be sinking into scary depths of your consciousness. To ask for help can be so difficult when you believe nobody can help and nothing will work. To have faith in a higher power can be a beacon in this darkness.

Certainly the desire for Faith has great power and whilst I'm not a depressive type I do feel this lack of faith disturbing.

Sir, A marvelous poem, this one. Everybody does carry a black hole in one's heart, in one's consciousness. To discern this is the task. There's a black hole In my consciousness The black hole causes a vaccuum: I feel less whole Diminishing As it swallows up the light- this is where the dark days take birth.... Diminished by my lack of Faith, Dark, dark, dark, I become As the sun consumed by night. But Sir, it is said, every night breaks into a day. So, there is no reason to lose HOPE! ! In a distant park A lone dog is heard to bark, Lost, bereft of its master. Indian Poet-Philosopher of the yore, Sant Kabir Das has said Tera Sayee tuchh mein, jyom puhpan mein baas, meaning The subject of your faith is well within you, as the sweet smell is within a flower- This inimitably exquisite metaphor sums it all: human being is likened to a flower and God, to the sweet smell it carries and spreads to others. That is, your faith not only comforts you, it consoles others too. Do I see a tinge of the famous poem Elegy on the Death of a Mad Dog in these lines? ? A very very big 100++ for this poignant and profound poetry... Thank you.. I too am lost Cry out for guidance

I was brought up as an Atheist but I admire people who have a strong Faith, whatever their Religion. I ask myself where does my verse come from. There seems to be a source beyond my understanding.

People with faith, hold out your torch And bring me back to light You will not scorch me with your truth- - - - - -Life sometimes feels so dark with no hope, no joy and, no love.It seems there is no light in sight.Yes in intense despair we seek someone with faith to hold our hand and guide us to light..
