Black Empowerment Poem by sydney conteh

Black Empowerment

A poet once said
"How it aches to pick ourselves, from a lineup every day"
To see parts of ourselves as criminal
To imprison the best part of ourselves
With teeth that bar
The things the world says we should not see

Black empowerment is just, the ability to see a lineup
Of all the things you are
And not pick the ones that are
Socially accepted, to pick all of them
That's when you are whole
