Hi Denis, This is a very interesting poem on black and white animals. No other animal could have been a better example than Zebra with their sharp black and white stripes. Both black and white are strong characters of nature. Through them one can visualise many other colours too, through the mind's eye. A work of art and aesthetics....10

Nothing strange is going on, my friend. That's the work of God, through Mother Nature. Black and white, black and white pearl, ebony and ivory... We can go on and on.

They could have all been striped. I am wondering what was in the Creator's mind when He bestowed dapples here, streamlined color blocs there, and a ragamuffin mask elsewhere. Does He think like an artist? (I invite you to look at " snow owl" under Google Images.) Thanks for reading.

Black and white, two contradictions like love and hate or happy and sad. You write a mesmerising poem that explores the puzzle and the enigma of the darkness and the light! ! Thank you so much for your wonderful comments on my poem " Black and White"

Thanks for seeing what I was driving at. We sense a life extending into the unseen. We are intrigued by traces of its activity spanning local sectors of time-space and beyond.

Mother's Nature Gallery is beyond our human's perception and imagination. That's why we are always curious about the nature and life including the wildlife. An interesting poem based on your trip to Chengdu (成都) , the very beautiful city in the south-west of China. Wonderful!

I guess if there was white around the eyes there would be too much glare entering them. Doesn't everybody know that black ears hear better than white? Thanks for the sift from forgive.

(Contd ) It shows your depth of knowledge on animals living across different geographical region.Inquisitiveness and the question 'WHY' always perplex a scientist as well as a poet. I hope, you get to the bottom of whiteness and blackness of the panda..

Captain Ahab searched obsessively for the white whale. I thank my lucky stars that my quest is guided by the Muse.

As a former biology major, I think evolution is a good way to visualize the Tree of Life, but I don't want to see it co-opted by a mechanistic world view.

Taken together, they show a lovely range of styles In their ways of combining two elemental colors. Is there a message I'm missing, or am I just perplexed? Because I know, for sure, something strange is going on. - - - - - - A great poem as it touches upon a science subject without losing its poetic fervour.

some favorite lines: In Mother Nature's gallery when I walk down a corridor of colors AND: Their phyla and habitats are as different as can be. With stripes, dapples, contours or whimsical color blocs, Taken together, they show a lovely range of styles.........just like the Paris (France) fashion runways! Thanks, bri ;)

Cont/... I also like to think that the black n white stripes are great for aesthetic reasons while scientists Credit it more to thermo-regulation purposes. And it is a must to point out how your poem describes and muses about the black n whites combination in nature so creatively and smartly that any thinker could e impressed. I feel surprised that such scientific poems are very few and far between. Keep on it. And kudos.

Wow I find it personally very interesting that you should mention zebras in this awesome intellectual muse for one, I was called a zebra since childhood coz it sounded closer to my name zaynab and as I grew up I adopted it as my animal signifying that as well as the fact that I was a fair person who always lived in countries of blacks.

it isn't so easy to pin down what are called the primary colors/colours, but i won't be far off if i say 'red' 'blue' 'green' and 'maybe yellow'. i don't know if Denis means primary when he says elemental. and i don't care! ! ! BUT, as for black and white: some will say they are colors and some will say they are not. ;)))) i DID read the Poet's Notes. thank god/goodness or whatever, i did NOT REPEAT the author's ramblings! bri :)

Google 'says': For many decades, the precise taxonomic classification of the giant panda was under debate because it shares characteristics with both bears and raccoons. However, molecular studies indicate the giant panda is a true bear, part of the family Ursidae...........i hope all my research results aren't duplicated in Denis's Poet's Notes! ! ! ! ! i have not even finished the poem yet. but i've got 'time to kill' tonight! (to be continued) .....

The panda is like a living fossil, because it hasn't developed since the ancestors of our present-day Ursidae species diverged from it.
