This may be one of the best birthday poems I've ever heard. Hallmark would be jealous that their cards don't have this kind of creativity and genius.

Howard, i really like this one. i think it's better than A Kiss. i gave this one a 9. I've never heard the sun described like that, ...very original. the mark of a great poet. and yet you didn't have to go all super-wordy with it. you just gave it a playful, creative spin on how the sun gets to us. a great poet and say a lot by saying very little. that what you did here, perfectly. and sometimes a poem needs to be long, don't get me wrong there either... this poem also gives the reader the feeling of how lucky anyone is, just to wake up and experience all the little things in a day we can take for granted...birds singing, the sun coming up, etc. thanks for sharing this with us! ! ! -RQ-

I really love the repetitive nature of this poem. It seems to bring me right into the poem, as should happen when a good poet writes. The way you have used nature to pep up the reader is unbelievable and I really enjoyed it. Great write. Lynn

You made very nice use of figures of speech. I more often than not enjoy such writing. Short, as I prefer, and skillful. The repetition of ''You today'' was the only mark of defect to me.
