Birds 10 - Nilagiri Wood Pigeon Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Birds 10 - Nilagiri Wood Pigeon

Rating: 5.0

This member of the pigeon family
larger than the domestic pigeons
is an endangered species, found
albeit rarely, in the deciduous forests
on the hills of Western Ghats in Kerala.

This beautiful frugivorous bird
is on the verge of extinction, due to
destruction of it's natural habitats
and large scale felling of trees
resulting in shortage of it's natural food.

A victim of human greed!
