Chennai City, on the shores
of Bay of Bengal, they say,
has just three climates
hot, hotter and the hottest.
Within a couple of months of our
moving in to the new apartment
pigeons came in and everywhere
their call rang ‘gotrgoo-gooo'.
November, it rained cats and dogs
when a pigeon couple nested beside
the AC outdoor unit below the window sill,
of my daughter's bedroom.
A month passed, one morning
we woke up to the ‘keeyoh-keeyoh'
of the chicks, it is then we knew
we'd missed the sight of the eggs.
Then there were the parents
flitting in and out without rest
fetching food for the chicks, trying
to quench their insatiable hunger.
It was another four weeks
before the squabs flitted out
from their insalubrious dwelling
and flew free to the open skies.
Such a fantastic poem! I think I can relate. There's a magnificent pine tree in my back yard...a nesting ground each year for some fine bird family.
And falling asleep slowly listening to the far-away songs of nightingale and the calls of little owlets on the mango tree and the cacophonous lullaby of cicadas
I understand MJ. You live close to Nature, so you can relate. It is a great feeling of happiness to wake up to the songs of birds in the morning. And..
You've heard of: chicken soup for the soul. Well, when I was 14 months old, pigeon soup had saved my soul. Medicine wasn't able to save my life. But an ancient naturopathic remedy did the trick.
Hi Richard, I am grateful to you. About the health benefits of the soup, you are the better person to judge
The common pigeons we see around is just one of the big family of pigeons. Hope you have heard of ‘Messenger Pigeons', the erstwhile British Carrier Pigeons, etc..
Pigeon is the symbole of peace and love; the birds in the life bring the solid feelings of natural freedom; nice to read the poem
The marvellous symbol of Love and Peace, Pigeon, is so common around human habitation that we tend to ignore them. But, the family of pigeons is humongous.

I would like to translate this poem
