Bidston Hill Poem by Neil Young

Bidston Hill

i) observatory

stars were once observed
from these quarried sandstone walls
now just empty space

ii) a dead tree

dark lightning of your
petrified branches contrasts
the calm summer blue

iii) sun goddess

with wild abandon
sunna rides her chariot
through the morning sky

iv) moon god

mani deep in thought
prefers to walk, his mind clears
burning like a flare

v) underground

water seeps through stone
into these caverns, shelter
once from raging war

vi) lighthouse

light throbs through the fog
pulsing over river silt
in desperate hope

vii) sea lights

though fog starts to clear
sea lights form a leading line
through the horse channel

viii) footbridge in the rain

dark road's wet ribbon
weaves between each sandstone bluff footbridge sings with rain

ix) windmill

bare sun bleached trellis
of your stilled rotating wings
rooted in sandstone
