Bhasha Movement/ Bhasa Divas Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Bhasha Movement/ Bhasa Divas

Bhasa Divas,
Bhasha martyrs,
Language patriots, nationalists
Who protested, died for the tongue,
The mother tongue
To register it,
Commemorative of International Mother Language Day
As approved by the UNESCO.

What is Bhasa Divas,
Why do we celebrate it,
What for,
What is it commemorative of,
Who the Bhasha martyrs
And why did they sacrifice their lives?

Where the Shaheed Minar,
How the candles lighting before in memory,
Commemorating sacrifice and martyrdom,
Who the makers of the Minar
And how the sacrifice of life for language,
Can it be really?

But the crux of the matter stopping
It not there,
Taking it to the study of not only
Regional and national, but international languages,
The linguistic variety and diversity
Adding verve and strength to depleting mother tongue.

And the celebration a homage to them
Through memories, events, essays, poems,
Lectures, speeches and reminiscences,
Sculptures erected,
Scattering, offering of flower petals,
Lighting of candles, burning of incense sticks
In respect to them.

To go deep into is to feel the pulse otherwise
Is to see the history of language movement,
Is to notify language belts and to demarcate mother tongues,
Is to give priority to spontaneous speech communication
And medium of natural expression.
