Betrayed Poem by Phil Daniels

Betrayed

As I look back over many a year
There is failure, then a tear
Wasn't what I should have been
For Jesus at that time I hadn't seen

Old resentments and anger try
Ones patience, swear and yell do decry
As I look for love support and value
You said "I do" but years go by, not true

One day the love I did await
Came in, walked through the gate
Oh what stunning love was this
For Jesus Christ's love I did miss

Changed overnight but for a while
Pressures of the world and life defile
Slip back into old habits and ways
Please God give me back those golden days

Oh to have a wife whose commitment be
To my God and then to me
Then I really could say
I have the best in every way

But love and hope don't deny
Will one day bring forth a cry
Forgive me Lord for I've been wrong
Your word it tells her to whom she belong

First to you and then my spouse
Not to all who live outside our house
But she in her ignorance bliss
Accepts not the laws of His

I try hard to bear this cross, but fail
Yell and scream, swear and wail
Plead and beg, knock on Your door
Are You deaf? Cos she turns away the more

As one tries to trust in the Lord
You flounder as you try to ford
Life's rough paths wont go away
The one's you trust and love betray

You are the one true Lord and God
So remould us, reshape, don't spare the rod
Open up our eyes to see
Your laws are for her as well as me

I should have fought for her with all my might
And she should have made me her delight
Neither of us has been so well behaved
So the question is, who has been betrayed?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Marriages are made in Heaven they say, but many are plain hard work. As I can say keep on keeping on the milestones are worthwhile.
