Lay your hand on his head, and pray that though the waves underneath grow threatening, yet the breath from above may come and fill his sails and waft him to the heaven of peace....be blessed and bless the successor thru the lights and colors of God;

Could a baby receive a greater blessing than if his parents internalize the meaning of this poem into their hearts. The magic first day of life, for a new soul who has " won the kiss of heaven for our earth" . Lead him straight, do not make him hanker after gold.... Superb poem. Rabindranath, one of the wisest men who has ever walked on this earth.

I`m not sure who`s the person in question here, but it hints of a child. Anyway, it is a gentle poem with a message of hope and asked guidance for that soul that is good and came to do good.

It would do no harm to resent this poem to all new parents to help them keep the goal of the journey in their minds as they raise these blessings from God
