Being Lead Poem by Randy McClave

Being Lead

You can lead a horse to water
You can explain life to a son and daughter,
Sadly, you can do the best that you can
But, they'll be deceived by a controlling con man.
The horse can be easily led to the river
The son and daughter will be led to deliver,
As the horse is led by him
The son and daughter will praise and sing a hymn.
You can show and explain to a person the truth
But, for facts they are not a sleuth,
They'll believe whatever is read and told
By rumors and gossip they will be easily controlled.
You can give a horse water to swallow
Then the horse will always follow
And you can give and tell a naïve, gullible person a lie
Then truths they won't ever then deny.
Sadly a horse will be happily and wantonly lead
And a person will easily believe all that is said,
In the end you can't make or force a horse to drink
And truths can't make a gullible person truly think.
