A very vivid use of metaphor Will encouraging the darkened souls to take bold steps in life to rise again. A very tempting poem towards bravery with motivation so pure and so beautiful to wash out the lethargy that otherwise overwhelms the deadened minds. The essence of poem is ingrained with a very special message of gaining the glory without fear of the hurdles because the excellence has always been achieved by those who dare to believe that something inside them is far more superior than the circumstances...... Best Regards naseer

How to speak so much in so few words.... I wish to have a dose of your exemplary way of using words to their maximum benefit. A most dark read.... gripping stuff! HG: -) xx

This feels like the work of someone who's had a whiff of the subject, and the heightening of the senses that comes with it - making the meadow so much more attractive than ever before! Strong imagery, deft use of language.

Will, I've been here before, but it was so good I had to come back. From end to end it's brilliant. The language choice is so effective as well - in line 2 I would have made a hash of it by choosing 'beyond' instead of 'behind' but that would have weakened the atmosphere you've generated here - and 'How fair the meadow is' is stunning. Simply stunning writing all round. jim

I've forgotten how I got here. Probably via South east Texas. Loved this. No, I'm awed!

Dear Will, The imagery you have threaded through out 'Before I Cross the River' is very well done and the poem has great rhythm and flow, a lovely read for a bitter sweet theme. I also liked the way you use contrast. The effect of the imagery of the white cleansing waters against the black rock adds a bit of spiritual depth to the poem. The poem has a bit of an Emily feel for me. Great job! Blessings ~ Debora

Wonderful imagery depicted in this dark dreamscape. I am glad that the rider reached the meadow in spite of all the difficulty. Very inspiring, Will. Kindest regards, Sandra
